Dr. Mathis is from Baytown, Texas, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ross S. Sterling High School. Prior to moving to the Dallas area in 1984, he earned a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans and a M.S. degree in Bio-engineering from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. Dr. Mathis graduated in 1988 from Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, and moved to Coppell in 1989. He has been practicing dentistry in the area since 1988 and opened the Coppell Dental Care office in March of 1990.
Dr. Mathis’ wife since 1988, Lynda, from Richardson, Texas, is a clinical psychologist practicing in Flower Mound. She enjoys scrapbooking and hiking in the mountains. They have two daughters. Their oldest, Madeleine, is an artist, musician, author, and film maker. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Experimental Animation from Disney’s California Institute of the Arts and is currently a free-lance animator and Etsy store operator. She has amazing things on her Deviant Art website as “Madelei” and on her personal website www.MadeleineMathis.com. Their youngest, Chloe, is a college student at University of Colorado, Boulder, and loves art, photography, writing songs, singing, piano, and musical theater. She wants to be a clinical psychologist. Dr. Mathis’s hobbies include bicycling on and off road, bicycle repair and restoration, and the design and building of bicycles.
About Our Coppell Dental Staff
Our exceptional, friendly staff is our greatest asset. They are excited about what they are doing, have high standards of quality and integrity, and are motivated to achieve the best results for our family of patients.
Our dental assistant and hygienist are licensed professionals with many hours of training. The entire staff has graduated from Dr. Michael Schuster’s Center for Professional Development in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Aside from three trips to Arizona, the staff regularly attends continuing education together. We’ve taken many courses at Baylor College of Dentistry’s Center for Professional Development and always attend the annual Southwest Dental Conference. Janet Gonzalez D.D.S.
Dr. Gonzalez practiced family and cosmetic dentistry in Coppell for over 21 years. She took a break while going through chemotherapy and is now fully recovered. Dr. Gonzalez has returned to teaching part time at Texas A&M College of Dentistry and practicing part time at Coppell Dental Care. She feels her love and enthusiasm for dentistry has found a perfect outlet with Dr. Roger Mathis and his team.
Dr. Gonzalez graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1991. Prior to dental school, she practiced dental hygiene for 12 years. She has a strong background in periodontal care (gum disease), Invisalign (clear braces), implant restoration, sedation dentistry, as well as cosmetic and restorative family care.
Dr. Gonzalez and her husband have a grown daughter and multiple foster cats. She also spends time gardening and caring for elderly family members.
Melanie, Dental Hygienist
Melanie has been licensed to practice dental hygiene since 1976. She attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for three years and earned her B.S. degree in dental hygiene from Texas Women’s University. Melanie is very familiar with the dental field: her father was a dentist and her brother is a dentist. She has worked with Dr. Mathis since 1992. Melanie has two children, Daniel and Kristen, and a precious grandson named Jace, born in 2013. Aside from family activities, Melanie enjoys her sorority, good friends, and watching Days of Our Lives during lunch.
Chanda, Certified Dental Assistant
Chanda has been in the dental field since 1998. She joined Dr. Mathis’s team in 2002 after being in the Dallas area only four days–we grabbed her up quick! Chanda moved here from Groves, Texas, and has a daughter born in 2007 and a son born in 2013. She has an excellent chair-side manner and is very caring. Our patients are very comfortable with her and confident in her abilities as an assistant.
Kathy, Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, and Certified Dental Assistant
Kathy Kilpatrick is a proud native Texan, growing up right here in the Dallas area and has over 40 years of hands-on dental experience. She started her career as a chairside dental assistant after graduating from Tyler Jr. College with an Applied Sciences Degree in Dental Assisting and was a chairside dental assistant for 15 years before moving into the business office where she worked for another 15 years as a Front Office Administrator and Office Manager. Kathy then served as a dental practice management consultant for the past 10 years until returning to private practice, working as our Front Office Coordinator. Kathy has also lectured at many local, regional and national dental conferences, sharing her insights on improving practice productivity and profitability, as well as increasing the effectiveness of team members in their respective dental practices, empowering them to be better communicators. Kathy is passionate about developing caring relationships with her patients.
Kathy loves to volunteer and has worked with many organizations such as The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – Ride To Cure, Make A Wish Foundation, CASA, Boys and Girls Clubs. Kathy has also served as the Volunteer Coordinator for over 10 years for The Collin Classic Bicycle Ride, Tour Dallas Bike Ride, Make A Wish Bike Ride, The Ride of Silence, Blackland Triathlon, Shower of Love Bike Ride, and has also served on the Steering Committee for the Hotter N Hell Hundred bike ride and many other local organizations. She loves to spoil her nieces and nephews and most weekends can be found at a softball field or football stadium supporting them. Kathy also loves to cook and entertain.
